Complete Cloud

As you can see it has been a while since I have posted anything new, this doesn't mean that things have slowed any, far from it. We have been moving at such a pace that it is often diffcult to find the time to post the updates.

The other primary reason for a lack of posts here is because I now blog on our complete cloud corporate blog and have set aside regular slots in my week to keep it current. This will be, from now on my primary platform for sharing my views, what we are doing and where we are going with cloud.

There are some amazing things happening in the cloud arena and Fujitsu are at the heart of it, take a look at our cloud section of our website to get a taste and as always if you want to know more feel free to reach out to me.

The things clouds are made of..

Well to be precise the virtualisation things our global cloud offering is made of. This has been a number of year under development in our labs, as you might expect from us it has one or two surprising facts about Fujitsu in there. Like how much we have contributed to Xen source over the years and our activities within the DTMF looking to progress cloud standards.

Private Cloud Offering

Yesterday we announced in Japan the formal availability of our private cloud offering. This is a comprehensive cloud solution deployed at customer premises that can 'burst' in to our global cloud platform as required.

This offering is immediately available in Japan and will become available outside of Japan later in the year. This offering represents a true hybrid cloud offering inclusive of full service lifecycle monitoring and management.

We already have private cloud platforms and 'turnkey' solutions available to our customers that enable them to embrace the benefits of cloud computing. This announcement represents a leap forward from here to a seamless cloud offering combining the best of private and community clouds that are available consistently across the globe.

This enables our customers both global and local to utilise cloud computing assured that it is delivered from a location and with security that meets their needs. This can be achieved by deploying private cloud in any geography they wish, combining this with our global community cloud from any of our 6 strategic locations across the globe and all accessed seamlessly via our secure WAN services. When complimented with our 65 year heritage in providing IT services and innovation, I struggle to see who the direct competitors are at the moment.

Security within the cloud

Wow how time flies, it was brought to my attention recently that I hadn't been updating my blog. This isn't becasue nothing is going on, quite the contrary actually and over the next few weeks I will be publishing a number of posts to bring everyone up to speed. We have some amazing stuff in development and I will post on this from time to time also, but in the main I will be discussing what we can do together now and how Fujitsu is delivering against the needs of organisations looking to embrace cloud computing.

One such topic that everyone talks about is cloud security. In fact I would go so far as to say that in my regular conversations with CxO's within large corporations it is still one of the primary adoption barriers. Fujitsu UK&I took this on board as a key criteria when developing our enterprise cloud platform - IaaS and built a cloud platform that is proving itself as more than capable of answering these challenges.

Virtualisation ecosystem management differentiator

I have just picked up on this from Chuck's (Hollis's) blog. vmware have picked up a number of key portfolio management assets from the EMC Ionix suite, Chuck's blog entry does a very good job of positioning this so no point really regurgitating here. My view is that this is just the thing vmware needed to do to stay ahead of the game with regards to hypervisor / sub-cloud infrastructure management, which is where the 'virtualisation war' will ultimately be won

Fujitsu a winner at Datacentre Leaders Awards 2009

New enterprise cloud service in state-of-the-art data centre receives plaudits in 'Data Centre Transformation' category

London, 21st December 2009 — Fujitsu has been recognised for the second year in succession at the Datacentre Leaders Awards. Fujitsu was the winner of the 2009 'Data Centre Transformation' award which recognised its new cloud computing service, installed in its state-of-the-art London North facility.

Fujitsu Lead Industry Charge with First 99.99% Resilient Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) for UK and Ireland Enterprises

London, 23rd November 2009 — Fujitsu is launching the first cloud based infrastructure service designed for organisations in the UK and Ireland. No longer will customers need to purchase servers, software, data centre space or network equipment individually, rather they can now buy those resources as a service charged on a pay per use basis. The new service, called ‘Infrastructure as a Service’ (IaaS), is immediately available and completes the four layers of Fujitsu’s Dynamic Infrastructures portfolio.

Fujitsu IaaS has been designed for medium and large enterprises who want to rapidly drive out costs from the IT infrastructure. This is achieved by reducing the need for capital expenditure and reducing operational costs by up to 40%. This is done without compromising either the resilience of the IT system or the security of their organisation.
